Pinch me...I'm Dreaming!
We bought a house...we actually bought a house?? I can't believe it! Long story...get ready for it...
My mom knows this lady who used to be the little card checker at Costco and she hasn't been there lately so my mom asked where she's been and she told her that she started this new realtor job where she just takes people to new homes and helps them work out the sale and tries to wheel-and-deal with the lenders and stuff to get a great price on a home. She takes a small cut that the builders pay, nothing that comes out of the buyer's pocket...Well, my mom told this lady that B and I were looking for a house and she just got all excited with all of these homes that are selling at such a great price... We were very skeptical...especially because we already had a realtor working for us. We looked through some models and then decided to call this lady just to see how good of a deal she could get us. The next day, Wednesday, she called and said she had a house that was selling for 80,000 dollars less than the asking price...yes...that's 80 with three zeros behind it. The asking price was 330,000 and they were selling it for 250,000. It was only 1000 square feet with a one car garage. So, it seemed very small, but we thought...heck, for that price...we can deal with it! So, we went and looked at it...and it was SOO small! No wonder it was selling for so cheap. We went and looked through the other models and found one we really liked and the lady said she could get us 40,000 off the price. That would drop it to like 306,000 around there. Great deal! In our price range and everything, but the models we looked at the day before were a little nicer, had a little bigger yard and were one-story, so we figured if the lady could work us a deal off the other house, we'd want that one instead. The sales rep overheard us talking to our realtor and said, there is one house that's almost done that we could knock 80,000 off of. At that point, we knew we couldn't do any better and we just said, SOLD!! So, four hours later, here we are...proud owners of a house! I can't believe it. The process was easier than buying a car! It's a cute little 2-story 3 bed 2.5 bath with a 2 car garage. 1345 square feet..it's perfect. It'll be done in 2 months. They gave us a tentative date of January 26th that escrow would close and we'd get the keys.
So, that's exciting. The only problem is we'll only have one car for a little while because we had to put up 7,500 dollars for a deposit that they keep if we don't hold up our end of the purchase agreement, but they refund it at the close of escrow. So, for two months we're going to juggle our one car.
I still can't believe this is real. Our house is out in Anatolia, something I was totally against, but the homes are beautiful...it's part of a HOA, something else I was totally against except for the fact that it totally protects our property value...and they're going to do our landscaping and maintain it as well, we get cable TV as part of our dues, and there's a massive club house with pool and pools... :)
It's all very surreal. I don't think it will become real until about mid-January when the busy time is happening at the store and we have to figure out how we're going to pack and work 14 hours days...yikes! It'll all be worth it though. Just thought I'd share the news...and happy thanksgiving, happy birthday, happy anniversary, and happy Christmas to me!!
